Shirley Clarkson waves off husband Terry Clarkson who will be able to now drive alone after he passed his driving test with no errors
A pensioner has passed his driving test at the first attempt - at the age of 69. "Terry has been driving on 'L' plates for fifteen years, but he was a nervous wreck when he was going for it. Terry, who still works part-time at machinery manufacturer Pilkingtons, also scored a near-perfect 46 out of 50 on his theory test, and highly in the hazard perception test, before he got behind the wheel. He performed an "inch perfect" parallel park, and then continued to impress with his test drive. She said: "It is very rare to get a completely clean sheet, you need to do everything absolutely perfectly, not a single mirror or signal mistake. The engineer was stunned when he was told not only had he passed his test at the first attempt, he had done it without a single driver error. "My wife and I never go anywhere without each other anyway, so I have never needed a full licence. "I'm going to be chauffeuring her around everywhere now. Instead, he seized the opportunity and booked some lessons to go for his full licence. "He did brilliantly, though. His driving instructor Debbie Fielding said she had only ever come across two other perfect passes during five years of teaching. He recalled: "I got into the car and I was shaking like a leaf, but the driving examiner was great and relaxed me. "I nearly fell through the floor when she said I had passed, and again when she said I had got no faults. ". |
